I'm not down, just Twitter... I do find it fascinating that a comment that would normally flow by in the Timeline on Twitter or only be responded to by my followers, has generated 8 comments. LOL
Guess I'm not in it for the Coolness factor... Not sure how being owned by Google makes it cooler either? Considering Twitter and Jaiku are basically the same app, not sure why anything but personal preferance would win out in the battle for coolness.
@MaxWeb In part, it's because Jaiku tends to have a much higher signal/noise ratio than Twitter does. Also, because Jaiku supports a real threading model, stuff posted to the public timeline doesn't get pushed off in .002349 microseconds like it does on Twitter due to all the noise on Twitter.
The threading aspect is one important thing. Also very important is the fact that you can pull feeds in and discuss them in said threads. This adds a different element of lifestreaming as opposed to Twitter, where it's mostly just conversation, trying to shout over the noise. Also, the channels here in Jaiku are pretty darn cool :)
So extended conversation on topics (like the one we're having here) are possible on Jaiku with more people joining in from the public timeline? So it make Jaiku more of a chatroom than a microblogging app. IMO
That's more or less what I'm getting at. Jaiku is more in line with "lifestreaming" as some call it. You can pull in photos, blog posts, videos, etc from everywhere. Depends on how social you are online ;)
you can also lifestream and bring your rss from other places which can be commented on as well. Plus you see comments your contacts make on non-contacts posts which lets you see what's going on and potentially get involved and meet new people pretty easily
@MaxWeb A lot of what gets posted to Jaiku originates as "microbloging" content. Jaiku's threading facilitates discussing said microblogs (and lifestreams). Twitter's lack of threading is one of the main reasons I don't use it; it's impossible to follow anything over there.
I would actually label Twitter more like the chatroom than Jaiku. Chatrooms generally have a bunch of people in them all talking about whatever random thing they're on about, and there is no logical flow and often multiple discussions occurring interleaved with each other. Basically a mess to follow. Jaiku would be more like a forum, where threads contain logical trains of discussion. (Which is not to say that threads don't get hijacked and ridden round the world six ways from Sunday from time to time...)
We've also seen people use a thread to contain a stream of logically connected microblogs. E..g, the various "tripkus" people have taken. They'll start a Jaiku when leaving on a trip, and post little updates as comments to that one Jaiku rather than making them all their own little starting Jaikus. Which in a way makes it easier to follow their trip.

Let me clarify. I am suggesting that @MaxWeb use Jaiku all the time, not just when Twitter is down. I guess I didn't phrase my sentiment very well. :P

Jaiku has different elements which set it apart from Twitter. They don't belong in the same category

I'd say that it's perhaps gotten further in the development stage than Twitter, but certainly don't see them as different catagories.
